Personal History

Jonathan Stone, first son of Jonathan Stone[3] and Abiel[2] (Bigelow), was baptized 9 February 1723/4, in Framingham, Province of Massachusetts Bay, after the death of his father and on the same day as his three brothers,[2] and was said to be in his 18th year of age on 8 April 1734.[3] He died intestate[4] 8 September 1755.[1]

In the will of his grandfather, Nathaniel Stone, dated 23 June 1732,[5] the heirs of “my third son Jonathan Ston being deceased” were bequeathed a tract of land in Framingham of about 50 acres “to be distributed by Abiele Ston the relict widow.” On 12 March 1734,[3] in Framingham, Jonathan Stone, son of Jonathan Stone late of Framingham, along with his brothers Reuben and Simeon, signed a letter declaring that he had chosen Micah Stone to be his guardian. On 8 April 1734, Micah Stone of Framingham, husbandman, signed bonds in the amount of £200 each for granting the three guardianships.

Intention of marriage was published 30 September 1739, in Leicester, for Jonathan Stone of Framingham and Elisabeth Lamb. They were married 25 October 1739, in Leicester.

On 5 December 1755,[4] in the probate court of Worcester Co., Elisabeth Stone, widow, was appointed administratrix of the estate of her husband Jonathan Stone late of Leicester, husbandman, and she, along with John Brown of Leicester and Joshua Lamb of Spencer, both gent., signed a bond in the amount of £100. John Brown, Jonathan Newhall, and Joshua Lamb took an inventory of the estate on 24 December 1755; the real estate “being thirty-five acres with a small house and barn thereon” was valued at £100, and the personal estate was valued at £29-3-6. In 1762 the eldest son, Francis Stone of New Braintree District, tanner, received the real estate (then valued £96) in whole after purchasing his mother's third and was required to pay the legacies of £10-11-2 each to his siblings Persis Ball, Rufus Stone, Jonathan Stone, and Mary Stone, and upon the death of his mother an additional £5-5-7 each.
