Letter to Clare Palmer Gambrill May 11, 1958 from Bruce Palmer: John taught school in Cambridge, Texas one year, 1890-91. Written by Ruth Palmer Short: Dad's brother John was the youngest graduate of Leland Stanford at the time he was graduated. Some years later he was Asst. Supt. of Schools for the State of Nevada. He spent a year in Texas, taught in same school Dad had taught in Cambridge - Miss Lulu's community. When weather was bad or cold he didn't bother to go until kids had arrived, built fire and things were warmer. He didn't want to stay another year and they didn't want him. At the closing exercises he undertook to tell the community what he thought of it. Dad was embarrased no end for he had been successful and popular there. He went to California and finished his education. 1900 US Census, Mount Vernon Precinct, San Bernardino City, San Bernardino County, California Living with his parents John W, son, white male, born May 1872, age 28, single, born in Missouri, father born in England, mother born in S.
