"21. John3 Welles, Jr. (John2, Gov. Thomas1), born c. 1648 in Stratford, Connecticut; and died there 24 March 1713/14 (Barbour citing LR 2:485). … John Welles was a Deputy from Stratford to the Colonial Court in September 1689 and October 1693 (Col Rec 4:2, 4:104). John wrote his will on 21 March 1713/14 in Stratford, Connecticut, which names his wife Mary, sons John Wells, Joseph Wells, and Robert Wells; daughters Mary, Sarah, Comfort, Elizabeth, and Hannah; appoints sons John and Robert executors; witnessed by Joseph Curtis and John Tompson. On the back, it states, he grants to his sons, including Thomas, the lands they currently occupy, dated 23 March 1713/14. Both the will and 'further consideration' are signed by a mark. An inventory was taken 21 April 1714, valued at £1,647:02:03 (Fairfield Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 6755)."
