On 20 May 1765 in Fairfield Probate District Court, the inventory of Joseph's estate was presented. It had been appraised by Agur Tomlinson and Isaiah Brown, and came to £3059:15:03. On 3 March 1766, the court ordered Agur Tomlinson, Theophilus Nichols and Isaiah Brown to divide the estate so that a double portion went to Joseph Wells, the eldest son, and a single portion to the heirs of Benjamin Wells, taking into account any settlements the men received during the lifetime of their father. The distribution was approved by the court on 27 September 1768. The heirs of Benjamin Wells are not named (Fairfield Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 6754)."
