John is said to have 5 children die in infancy, but had part in rearing his brother's grandson, Eli Anderson Torbett. He moved the log house that is now located on the H.L. Torbett place from the old Scott farm about the time of the Civil War. This land was eventually inherited by Eli Anderson Torbett.
