"Two of the 7 Tinnin signers of that 1801 Montgomery Co [Tennessee]. Petition were sons of John Tinnin and wife Jane Mebane who were married in Lancaster Co. PA and settled in what became Orange Co. NC shortly before that county was formed in 1752. Two were James Tinnin's sons, and the other three were sons of John's son Col. Hugh Tinnin, who was killed by Indians in 1794, Davidson Co. TN."
