The following was found on an ancestry.com chart "Thorne Family Tree" by Misty Thorne: "John Thorne was born about 1643 in Lynn, Essex, MA. He died after 23 Jul 1709 in Whitestone Point, Flushing, Long Island, NY. He was buried in Flushing, Long Island, NY. He resided in Flushing, Long Island, NY. JOHN THORNE:There is clear evidence that John Thorne & wife officially joined the Religious Society of Friends, but they are likely to have lived much of their life attending meeting & generally living the life of an ordinary Quaker, as many of their neighbors & children were Friends. His will was dated July 23 1709. His older brother William moved from Long Island. & John became the head of the Thorne Family on L.I. Birth date of about 1640 means not later than.

"John Thorne and Nicholas Pearsall were among the inhabitants of Flushing who were offered the status of freement of Connecticut " if they would have it" May 13, 1664. This was at the time that the English government was preparing to absorb the colony of New Netherlands, of which Long Island was a part. Connecticut was, of course, an English Colony, while Long Island was part of the Dutch New Netherlands. On Aug. 12, 1667 Nicholas Pearsall, Joseph Thorne, John Thorne of Flushing presented themselves to the Governor and gave their names "to be ready to serve His Majesty under his honorable command on all occasions". The island of Long Island, however, did not become English at that time.

"John Thorne died in 1709. His will, dated July 23, 1709, was probated the same year. He left his estate to his wife and children, restricting his wife's share should she remarry, and naming his son William as sole executor. He was married to Mary Pearsall (daughter of Nicholas Pearsall and Mary Van Damn) on 9 May 1664 in Flushing, Long Island, NY. Mary Pearsall was born about 1643 in Massachusetts. She died in New York. She was buried in New York. Note difference in spelling of her surname & her parents. No error, they frequently slightly switched spelling of names."
