Thomas1), born 29 December 1671 (Farmington First Congregational Church Records, slip index citing 1:66, 2:35, NEHGR 11:238); and died 9 August 1741 in Farmington, Connecticut, at age 69 (Barbour citing LR 6:10), buried in the Old Farmington Cemetery (Hale 69). He married first on 2 November 1699 in Farmington, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR 2:415) Margaret Orton, daughter of John Orton and Mary Tudor, born in August 1677 (correspondence of Rupert Farnham Thompson); and died before 1724. As John Thompson, Sr., he married second on 18 June 1724 in Farmington, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR 2:52) Ruth Steele, daughter of John Steele and Ruth Judd, who died before 20 [error for 29] May 1754 when an inventory was taken of her estate.

    The will of John Thompson, Sr., dated 5 July 1737 and proved 26 October 1741, names wife Ruth; sons Nathaniel, John, James, Solomon, Hezekiah, and Ezekiel; and daughters Margaret Beach, Hannah Bird, and Eunice Thompson (Hartford Probate Distict, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 5431). The inventory, taken 26 October 1741, with additions came to 574:18:06. The distribution after direct legacies, dated 8 February 1742/3 and filed 27 January 1742/3 by Isaac Cowles, John Hart, and Thomas Wadsworth, provides £32:04:08 each to the widow Thompson, Nathaniel Thompson, James Thompson, Ezekiel Thompson, Solomon Thompson, Hezekiah Thompson, Margaret Beach, Hannah Bird, and Eunice Judd (Manwaring 2:312 provides distribution which in incorrectly added to his father's estate record although the request for distribution is correctly listed at Manwaring 3:353; and Hartford Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 5431."
