    Last rites for John G. Skipwith, 51, Spanish-American War veteran and well-known throughout Louisiana, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 1:20 o’clock at the grave-side in Greenwood cemetery. Dr. H. M. King, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church, conducting a simple ceremony.

    Mr. Skipwith died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at New Orleans and the body was shipped to Jackson early this morning from New Orleans for burial. Only a few distant relatives were present at the services. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, once prominent in Louisiana political affairs. He was a graduate of Tulane University, and of Louisiana State University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He saw service in Cuba during the Spanish-American war, volunteering at the outbreak. During his service he fought with Theodore Roosevelt at San Juan Hill and in many other campaigns. He was a nephew of the late Captain John Skipwith, a Louisiana leader of the Ku Klux Klan during the last days of the organization.
