John Sharp: The Thomas Sharp family arrived between 1720, when John was born, and 1740, when John's first child was born in Pennsylvania. Family legend says that the Duncans, Sharps, Laughlins, Porterfields, and others all came together to America from Belfast, Ireland. If so, they probably came at the urging of Thomas' brother-in-law, Thomas King, who came much earlier. This was the pattern for later generations. One or two families would go first, followed by the rest of the clan over a period of years. Thomas Sharp's will, written October 24, 1757 and proven February 5, 1758: "In the name of God Amen, I being sick and low of Body but of perfect Sense and Memory Thanks to Almighty God and calling to Mind my Mortality do make this my last will and Testament in Manner following and first I give my Soul to God and my Body to be decently buryed in Hopes of a glorious Resurrection as to my Worldly Goods I dispose of them as followeth: First I will that all just Debts be paid after my Internment. I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Ketrine the third part of my whole movable Estate. I give to my son John Sharp Ten Shillings and to my grandson Thomas Sharp my gun. I give to my son William Sharp my Olive Green Coat and Jacket. I give to my daughter Anna Tod five Shillings and to my daughter Sarah Clark five Shillings.
