1763 commission-copy of John Rinker commission – copied 1881 by Lydia D Myers for JSB (Copy) By the Honorable James Hamilton Esquire Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief of the province of Pennsylvania and Counties of Newcastle, Kent and Sussex on Delaware – {seal} James Hamilton To John Rinker Gentlemen, Greeting – Reposing especial Trust and Confidence, in your Loyalty, Courage & Conduct, I do by virtue of the powers and authorities unto me given Nominate and Appoint you the said John Rinker – Lieutenant of an Independent Company of Foot to be raised for the Defence of the Town of Easton in the pay of this province. You are therefore to take the said Company under your Care and Charge as their Lieutenant and duly to exercise as well the Officers as Soldiers thereof in arms; and to use your best Endeavours to keep them in good order and Discipline: and I do hereby command them to obey you as their Lieutenant. And you are to observe and follow such Orders & Discipline from Time to Time as you shall receive from me, or any other your Superior Officer, according to the Rules and Discipline of War in pursuance of the Trust hereby reposed in you. Given under my Hand and Seat at Arms at Philadelphia the Thirteenth day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred & Sixty three, and in the third year of his Majesty’s Reign. Thomas Taylor; Class: 2nd; Remarks: over age; Authority: Appeal Book for the period; Dated: June 7, 1779 1790 Census- there are three John Rinkers in the 1790 census - one in Bucks Co. with 1 free white male of 16 yrs & upwards including heads of families, 2 free white females including heads of families; one in Philadelphia, Northern Liberties with 3 free white males of 16 yrs & upwards including heads of families, 1 free white male under 16, 4 free white females including heads of families; and one in Philadelphia, Moyamensing & Pass with 7 free white males of 16 yrs & upwards including heads of families and 1 free white female including heads of families. There is not enough information on any of the census forms for me to determine which John is ours. Our John Rinker would be 66 in the 1790 census. There are 3 John Rinkers in 1800. Our John Rinker would be 76. Abraham became a captain in a company during the Revolutionary War, and he is frequently mentioned in the proceedings of that period in various capacities, sheriff of the count, &c. &c. Image Gallery
