Settled in Mason Co., (West) Virginia in 1847. John Plants was a soldier in the 1861 War in the 13th WV regiment and took part in all the engagments of that command. He was wounded at Cedar Creek, a minnie ball passing through his arm. John Plants was a farmer in Brighton, Cooper Dist, Mason Co., West Virginia and sold his last mill cow to finish paying off indebtedness on the local Methodist church, Eddy Chapel, so it could be dedicated debt-free.
