[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 2, Ed. 1, Tree #5636, Date of Import: Jan 3, 2000] John Pierce b. 1773. "He entered Harvard College in 1789 and graduated in 1793. On leaving Harvard he received the appointment of teacher in Leicester academy where he remained two years, or until July 10, 1795 when he commenced the study of divinity under the Rev. Thaddeus Mason Harris of Dorchester. On the 22nd of February, 1796 he was "approved" by the Boston association of ministers at the house of Dr. John Elliott, of Boston. On the 2nd of November, 1796, he was appointed tutor at Harvard university. On the 13th of December, 1796, he received an unanimous call to settle as pastor over the church at Brookline, Mass., which, as he writes, "after mature deliberation I accepted February 1, 1797, and was ordained March 15, 1797." He never changed nor wished to change his place, but remained a faithful and happy pastor to a virtuous, united and prosperous people for more than fifty years, or until his death. August 24, 1849."
