John Parkison, 76, a lifelong resident of Wolf Lake, died at 1:23 a.m. Monday in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he had been transported by EMS after becoming ill at home Sunday evening. He had been in failing health for the past month. Mr. Parkison was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Wolf Lake, to Roy and Bessie Mildred (Fuller) Parkison. On July 21, 1951, he married Orpha L. Smith, who survives. For the past 40 years, he and his wife had resided on U.S. 33 in Wolf Lake. He was employed at Dana Weatherhead for 44 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in Corsica, Italy, with the 57th Bomb Wing as an engineer/gunner on a B25. Surviving with his wife are a brother, George Parkison of Wolf Lake; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Prince; and two brothers, Frank Parkison and Don "Ducky" Parkison. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the Rev. Tim Grable officiating. Burial will be in Thorn Cemetery in Ormas. American Legion Post 246 will present military honors at the cemetery. Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Wolf Lake VFW 4717 or the Wolf Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
