Elton had a large gold nugget he had found which he wore on a watch chain.

Elton was already out West adventuring and working at lumber camps and mills when George PORTER went out there to get together with him. They were out there and involved in many of the things Zane Gray wrote about in his stories of the Canadian NorthWest. They were close friends, although their names were never mentioned. George PORTER knew the Mort TIER who was a fella that Zane GRAY named in his tales.
