Funeral held at Kamloops Memorial Chapel at 372 Seymour, Kamloops. ref Betty Ruth ERWIN (interviewed 15 May 1984): Elton sent a number of postcards to his cousin, Grace PORTER...which Betty has. ... May 1908...from Sterling, Colorado Jun 1908...from Billings, Montana another card dated _________, says "from the wilds, just 50 miles from the nearest railroad" Elton had a large gold nugget he had found which he wore on a watch chain. Elton was already out West adventuring and working at lumber camps and mills when George PORTER went out there to get together with him. They were out there and involved in many of the things Zane Gray wrote about in his stories of the Canadian NorthWest. They were close friends, although their names were never mentioned. George PORTER knew the Mort TIER who was a fella that Zane GRAY named in his tales. June 1921 Elton wrote or sent a picture from (? Brazzan) County/Country Frozen River, British Columbia, Canada In 1941 Betty was able to visit with Elton while he was home (Detroit) to see his mother (at "Ollie"s). |
