John Rufus was born at Moosepath and worked at the nail making factory for a while. He became a carpenter and made toboggans for Lily Lake. He was somewhat of an inventor and was one of the first to put metal runners on bobsleds although he never patented his idea. He built a house in Tisdale Place (now just off the westmoreland road opposite the old Woodlawn school. He and his brother Bill built Kenneth & Geraldine's house on St. Catherine st., East Saint John. This was the family homestead from 1939 until Geraldine passed away in 1985. The house next door was built by William (Bill) McRae his brother. John R. lived there with his second wife Mrs. Heffernnon until they divorced and then he lived in the upstairs flat for a period of time. He was given to drink too much and wasted away after WW2.
