Maynard, he ad of household, owned house free of mortgage, white male age 44, marri ed to Cora C., able to read and write, born in Iowa, father born in Englan d, mother born in Illinois, occupation carpenter who contracted on accoun t. 8 children listed, which does not exactly match the information provi ded later by Tom Klar. Census data as follows: Robert L, 16; Elmer M, 1 5; Mary M, 12; Alice G, 10; Wm W, 8; Edith E, 5; Vena I, 3 11/12; Richa rd 2, 5/12. Vena may be Irene and Robert L may be Lee, while Alice G m ay be Gertrude.

Obituary from State Center Newspaper 12-11-1947 "John W. Maynard Well Known Resident, Succumbs Monday" "John W. Maynard, a native of the State Center community and well known ca rpenter, succumbed at his home Monday afternoon following a lingering illn ess. His health began to fail four years ago and he has been confin ed to his home here for the past year. "He was born on his father's farm three and one-half miles east of State C enter on December 5, 1875 and spent most of his early life in that neighbo rhood. "Mr. Maynard was married to Kora Cecil Worral at Marshalltown on July 2 3, 1902, and following their marriage they moved to State Center where th ey lived the past 45 years. To this union nine children were born, a ll of whom are living. "Besides his widow, he is survived by four daughters, Mary Bodie of Sta te Center, Gertrude Nolta of Melbourne, Edith Miller of Casper, Wyoming a nd Irene Runberg of Colby, KS; Five sons, Lee of Ashflat, Ark., Raymond a nd Theron of Eldore, William of Hubbard and Wesley of State Center and ele ven grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister. "Funeral services were held at the Wensel Funeral Home in State Cent er at 2:00 pm today with Rev. E. R. Mitchell, pastor of the First Presbyte rian church officiating. Interment was in Hillside cemetery. Pallbeare rs were Glenn Strain, Max Nauke, Walter Miles, Otto Westphal, Martin Riche son and Fleete Richeson. Flower bearers were Hazel Bodie, Margaret Richen son, Ruth Bodie, Gertrude Richeson, Flora Wilkening and Rosalie Starn. Mu sic was furnished by Mildred Meier, pianist and Marie Swartz and Vernon Br ady.
