Immigrated about 1881 to West Mashannon, Clearfield Co. Pennsylvania. There him and his wife reared nine children. Houtsdale, Clearfield County, Meyer's listed Wismachanon Station. Johnstown Tribune , July 20 1921 pg 1 John Mayer, prominent resident of Clearfield County, died at his home in West Moshannon on July 11 after a long illness of bright's disease. He was aged 79 years. the deceased was a native of Alsace Lorraine, where he was born on November 11, 1844. and where he was married and lived some time, coming to America in 21881,. Locating at West Moshannon, where they have ever since made their home, his wife having died there about 36 years ago. Of nine children born to them in this country seven are living as follows: George and Elizabeth at home: Leonard Mayer, Mrs. Savage and Mrs. William Maker, all of Windber; Nicholas Mayer of Johnstown and John Mayer, Jr., of Johnsonburg, all being here at the funeral. The deceased children are David and Margaret. The greater part of his life until sickness befell him Mr. Mayer worked in the mines and some four years ago he lost his hearing entirely. he was compelled to take his bed last Easter, since when he has not been up at all. Through his 40 years' residence in West Moshahon Mr. Mayer made the acquaintances of many friends, all of whom will regretfully learn of his death, and will join in sympathy to the stricken family . Services with high mass of requiem took place in St. Lawrence Catholic chruch, his pastor Rev Father M. J.
