Ellis Island record lists his name as Jean Pierre Lannegrand. Arived at Ellis Island on May 4, 1920, having traveled over on the ship "Niagara" from Bordeaux. In an obituary printed in the Missoulian, it stated that John passed away at the Mountain Valley Hospice House. It also stated that "John was a very honest and honorable man with a very keen mind. He loved hiking and fishing and was a ham radio operator since 1951. He was made an honorary member of the Ham Radio Amatuer Club." His niece Germaine also stated that, "His mind was amazing up to the very end, he was telling jokes and could remember everything and still entertain his visitors with a story or speak French to you. Don't we wish we inherited some of those genes?" |
