(running from Columbus, Ga. to Birmingham, Ala.) He and his wife were members of the primitive Baptist Church. Soon after his death his old homestead and plantation were sold and are now owned by strangers, and the greater part of the large dwelling has been removed for use in the construction of smaller houses, so that the appearance of the place has been sadly changed."..."The old Georgia homestead is about 114 years old (this was written in 1935) and about 15 years ago was still standing, but has been sold out of the family to a distant cousin. The hardwood floor was put down with wooden pegs. The remains of our Grand Parents (John and Brunetta Knight) and of their son Columbus and two daughters Martha and Eugenia lie buried in the old church yard at Gold Hill."........ "John drove an army wagon when 12 yrs of age, in the war of 1812, across the state of Georgia." |
