MILITARY: Minnie Knight Perry in her manuscript wrote of her uncle: " Jasper Stephen Knight enlisted in Confederate Army when not yet 16 yrs. belonging to a company of boys under 18 and afterwards formed a part of Echols Battalion of Alabama State troops. Then it was merged into the 63rd all composed of boys under 18. He was made first Serg. and shortly afterward promoted to Ser Major of that Regiment. His Health Failing, he was furloughed home. After remaining home abut two months he resigned and went to join the 37th., Company E, from which he was paroled by U.S. Army as a private on May 1st, 1865 at Greensboro, N.C."
