John was born in 1844. He is the son of Onias Hopkinsand Sarah Williams. He passed away in 1931.

Died at the Old Soldiers Home, Milwaukee, Wi Served with the 4th Cavalry during the Civil War. John C. apparently deserted Louisa about a month after their marriage.He was married under the name Clarence J. Hopkins, but did give his father's name as Onias Hopkins. On her 1920 application for half od his pension she calls herself Mary L. Hopkins. He never listed her as hisnext of kin when he entered the Old Soldiers Home at Grand Rapids, so apparently the dersertation date of Apr 15, 1905 is good. -- Donna Sams Further analysis leads one to doubt that Louisa Brooks was ever married to John C. Hopkins. This may have been an attempt on her part to getgovernment pension money. John C. never listed her as next of kin in any of his pension filings.
