Lived at Lot9 on the 4th Concession, which had been owned by John Monro, be the property of John Heffernan. His wife was Isabella McCartney and their family consisted of Mary Ann, who married Peter Daly Jr.; Elizabeth married Michael Duggan; Isabella married John Higgins; Theresa became a Catholic sister; Daniel; James; and Ellen, who married Michael Sweeney. John Heffernan Sr. Was killed when he was crushed beneath an overturned load of wheat on the Owen Sound Road, near the Irvine river in 1866. An 1883 copy of the Fergus News-Record contained the information that the Heffernan farm, Lot 9, Concession four ofNichol-107 acres, sold by public auction on Monday was bought by Mr. Samual Jamieson, a neighbour for $5950. ref. KILLED BY LOAD OF WHEAT John Heffernan, of Nichol, was killed on the Owen Sound road near the Irvine Bridge, January 16, 1866, when a load of wheat upset and buried Mr. Heffernan under it. Mr. James Williams of Luther Township who was with him tried to rescue Heffernan but he was dead when taken out of the wheat. The night was dark and the team had gotten in a ditch. ref.
