ohn Hausenfluck, was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia, in 1786, son of Henry and Margaret, married three times and died in the same area where he had lived his entire life, 9 August, 1872, at the age of 88.[1] John married Catherine Roland in 1811, bought land and established his home and life as a farmer, in what became the Maurertown area of Shenandoah County, about three miles north of the town of Woodstock. A year after he and Catherine married the country went to war, and In August 1814, John was drafted into Samuel Colville's company of the 6th Virginia militia, served as a private for a three month tour and was discharged in November, 1814.[2]

John and his family do not appear in the 1820 census of Shenandoah County, but in 1830, they are listed with their family, which by that time consisted of seven children, the oldest, a female between 15 and 19 years of age, followed by a male and female between 10 and 15, two males age 5 to 9 and two under the age of five. By 1840 the daughters and oldest son were married and so the family was smaller. In 1850, the first year all members of a family and their ages are given in the census, John is listed as age 64, Catherine is 65 and they are living next to his son, Samuel and his family. Catherine died by the end of 1850 and in August 1851 John married a neighbor lady, Rebecca Davis, who was about 53 years old at that time, but not much is known about her. John and Rebecca were listed in the 1860 census, with no one else in their family. Rebecca died about 1862.
