    "John (Grant), bapt. (Cottingham) 5 Mar. 1627/8, d. at Rowley, Mass., 18 Mar. 1696/7; m. Mary _____,* who d. (before 27 June) 1698. No children.

    * Mary was sister of Ann wife of Thomas Wood, and of Susanna wife of John Todd, but the editor (Jacobus) cannot accept the conclusion that these sisters were daughters of William Hunt (The American Genealogist, 21: 128-133), nor the statement of Mrs. Holman (Pillsbury Ancestry) that Mary was Mary (Hunt) Todd."

    "71-1. John2 Grant (Thomas and Jane). born in England; married Mary _____. He died without issue, 18 Mar., 1696-7. Administration granted 15 Apr., 1697 to his widow, Mary Grant. The sureties on her bond were Samuel Hunt of Billerica, and John Todd of Rowley. On file in the case are depositions of Samuel Platts, aged 48 years; Henry Riley, aged 69 years; Ebenezer Wood, aged 24 years; Susannah Todd, aged 60 years; Ann Wood, aged 60 years; all dated in 1697, and of Joseph Bailey of Bradford, who says, 'in Rowley where I was born and brought up,' dated 20 July 1698; and that of Samuel Stickney which is as follows: 'I Samll Stickney Sr of Bradford do testifie & say That I came over from England to New-England in the same ship wth Thomas Grant and Jane Grant his Wife, who brought over wth them Foure Children, by name John, Hannah, Frances, & Ann, whome I was well acquainted wth, & next or near neighbours unto in Rowley. And ye said John being deceased, I do affirm that the Sisters of John Grant above named, now by marriage known by ye names of Hannah Browne, Frances Keyes, & Ann Emerson are ye same yt came over wth their Father & Mother, & by them owned wth said John for their children.' Sworn to 20 July, 1698 (Essex Probate Files, 11510)."
