John Edward Gobrecht, of New Oxford, entered into God's eternal care October 29, 2008, succumbing to cancer that was diagnosed in April of 2005.
He was the son of the late Levi J. and Edith (Krumrine) Gobrecht and the step son of the late Bertha (Bucher) Gobrecht.
John retired from the Keystone-Seneca Wire Cloth in 1989 after 39 years of service in the Maintenance Department and later became employed by Keystone-Seneca on a part-time basis as a night watchman/handyman from 1990 until early 2005. He also served as the sexton for St. Paul's (Dubs) Union Church for 13 years. John was a member of the Lutheran Congregation of St. Paul's (Dubs) Church, the Firefighters Association of York County and the McSherrystown Home Association. He enjoyed riding his scooter around town since his retirement and throughout his illness.
Surviving are his wife, Jennie M. (Wildasin); three sons, William E. Gobrecht and wife, Sally, of Hanover, Robert L. Gobrecht and companion, Patty Beard, both of New Oxford, and Michael A. Gobrecht and wife, Robin, of Spring Grove; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Gobrecht Roller, his twin brother, William H. Gobrecht, his grandson, Kevin Gobrecht, and his step sister, Elizabeth Bucher Smith.
