Born 4th of 5 brothers he moved around with his Fathers work, Worked as a fireman stoking the engine boiler on the Manchester to London trains, left the railway to become a soldier in peacetime with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, where he rose to the rank of sergeant. Left after marrying to join the Prison Service. Was recalled to the Army 1939 for the 2nd W.War. Returned home in 1946 into Hospital Blues and then rejoined the Prison Service. He retired after his 60th birthday in 1970. Enjoyed retirement up to his death day - Lynda Harper |
