Born in Dundalk of English parents, her Father worked on the Railways and was sent to Ireland to work during the First W.War as he was not healthy enough to enter Army Service. They returned to Gorton in Manchester when Emily was 2 years old and she was brought up with her sister born in 1910 in the Gorton area, they later moved to Hayfield in Derbyshire where they were next door neighbours to the Garrett Family, Emily was married in Hayfield then later moved to the London area with her husband John for his training in the Prison Service. Through the Prison Service they moved to Birmingham, Manchester, Kirkham and later Stafford from where John retired. - Lynda Harper
