Facts and Events
[26635.ged] The following is from Margaret Caroline Ingram Fox: My grandfather used to visit us at Lovick, Alabama, when I was a little girl. I remember him sitting on the front porch in a straight cane chair holding his cane, and telling us stories of hearing the cannon shots that were fired during the War Between The States. He also told us of his parents selling their last slave on the block in Birmingham, Alabama when Birmingham was not more than a mud hole. He also remembered when the Yankees came through and stole all their horses from the barn. His family lived down the valley from Leeds around Lake Purdy. Grandpa loved to imbibe his Bourbon; he would take a drink from his bottle and say "Ah, that's good!" It hurt my mother terribly because he would sometimes drink. He rode his horse up until a few months before he died. He also told us the story of the time the house flooded and he got the feather bed out and floated away. |
