John Fox, minister, was born May 10, 1678, the son of the Reverend Jabez Fox (A.B. 1665) of Woburn... In 1700 Sir Fox was teaching school in Woburn... the next year, when still at Woburn, he must have had a blighted romance, for Josiah Cotton wrote to Rowland Cotton: "young Samuel Sewall is married to the Governour's eldest Daughter, our Foxe's Sweetheart." No serious damage was done, for early in 1703 he married Mary, daughter of the Honorable Edward Tyng."
