The Leacock Presbyterian Church - 1740-1940, pages 25 and 30-31 Lancaster County's first move in the direction of the Revolution was made December 15, 1774 when a Committee of Observation and Correspondence was elected, composed of sixty members. . . . Various meetings of the Committee were held soon, one on April 27th, 1775, two days after the Battle of Lexington. By May 3rd this committee resolved to take a census of the white inhabitants. Within a week companies of Associators were forming in some of the townships. John Ferree of Strasburg Township, was Colonel of the Association of this neighborhood formed on 5 July 1775. A battalion under his command started the march to the Jerseys on 19 August 1776. References
