Henry Pauling and John Dunkin who he led to Kentucky for the defense of the country ,arriving there about the first of August, 1777. (Draper Mss. 4C132 and 17J35).

He served in the Revolutionary War as a Captain. The family was taken captive into Canada during the Revolution and the youngest daughter was born there.

    DUNKIN, JOHN (1743-1817) Born 1743 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Alexander) Dunkin. He married Eleanor Sharp August 27, 1761 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He died October 27, 1817 in Washington County, Virginia. Taken Prisoner.
