John Comegys is said to have been a driving force in the erection of Washington Monument in Baltimore. His portrait is engraved on plate # 304 in the St Memin Collector of Portraits, Philadelphia PA.

Some authors refer to him as John R Comegys. No primary sources have been discovered to support the middle initial of R.

John became a partner in the firm of Benjamin Comegys & Co along with his uncle Cornelius Comegys and brother-in-law Benjamin Comegys.

May have resided at "the warm springs in Virginia".
