Funeral At Montieth For John S. Coleman
Services Conducted by The Rev. Roy Weakland of Clearfield
The funeral of John Scott Coleman of Montieth, who died Sunday, was conducted at Montieth Tuesday afternoon, by the Rev. Roy Weakland, Christian pastor from Clearfield. The Rev. Weakland formerly preached at Montieth. Mr. Coleman's obituary follows:
John Scott Coleman was born in Guthrie county, Iowa, September 17, 1854. He died Auguat 10, 1930 at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 23 days. He was a son of Thomas M. and Katherine Coleman. He leaves a wife, two children, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and many other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
He was born on his father's farm in Beaver township where he resided until his marriage to Louisa Kesler on April 5, 1877. At that time he went to his own home also in Beaver township where he lived until he moved into his home in Montieth.
To this union three children were born: Edward M. who died on February 13, 1915; Nellie Crawley of Montieth, and Charles F., who lives on the home place near Montieth.
His wife passed away leaving him and the younger son, Charles, very lonely in the old home. After several years he was again married to Mary Shank of Guthrie Center.
He was stricken with paralysis in February, 1929 and has been confined to his bed almost constantly since, never being able to care for himself during that time. He has been constantly cared for by his wife, daughter and son-in-law for a year and a half.
He was united with the church in Montieth about 1904 and was baptized. He was a loving son, a kind brother, and a devoted husband and father. He was the friend of children and a kind and helpful neighbor, always ready to help those in need of sympathy or aid. He was glad to do a service for a sick friend or neighbor.
