  • John Chatts or Chatte, son of Robert, 4 Apr 1680, Ovingham (14mi ENE of Hexhamshire, 8.6mi W of Newcastle)

The best locational match would be Hexham, which is where John's marriage and subsequent baptisms of his children were recorded. In the parish register, the entry reads simply "Johannes Chatses filius Johannes", so we have no additional information there to help confirm. The entries for this period are in Latin, so that's "John Chatses son of John" in English. It's unclear whether "Chatses" could be some variant of "Chatt". While first names were "Latinized" ("Johannes" for John, "Giulielmus" for William, etc), surnames do not appear to be modified. An inspection of the register from 1673 through 1684 found no "Chatt" and no other "Chatses". The most similar surname in that period is "Chester", though the "Chatses" entry is distinct enough that it does not appear to be a mistranscription of Chester.
