According to the History of Lawrence County, John Byers was one of the first teachers in Pulaski Village and taught in 1806-1807. (That means his birth date is incorrect here.) “William and Anna’s son, John, was one who remained in the area. As a young man he built a log cabin on land near Pulaski on what is now Route 468, about two miles east of Pulaski. Amassing a farm of 1500 acres, by about 1840 he replaced his first home with a large house constructed from his own handhewn clay bricks. It was struck by lightning i n1892 when in possession of his son, James Porter Byers, who rebuilt it using the same technique for creating the brick. Standing to this day, the present hme has witnessed the births of several of John’s descendents, among which was William H. Byers, Jr. in 1932.”
