Facts and Events
[edit] BiographyJohn Brimblecomb, lived in Marblehead from 1661 until his death in 1678. He was born circa 1623 based on the marriage dates of his three children. Tabitha was wife of John Brimblecomb and administrator of his estate on 29 Nov 1678 (Will dated 11 May 1678). They lived in a house on a lot that originally belonged to John Legg by 1661. The lot was passed down to their son Philip. They had three children: Philip (m Sarah Fluent and an unknown first wife), Richard (daughter married Edward Holman) and Mary (m Andrew Tucker).[1][2] [3] [4][5] In 1677 juvenile problems came to the attention of the town and the town meeting action ordered Ensign Norman and John Brimblecombe “to looke after the youth and boyes on the Lord’s Dayes that they behave themselves well and orderly.” (Donald A. Doliber, HISTORICAL OUTLINE OF THE MARBLEHEAD POLICE DEPARTMENT) [edit] Children
[edit] OriginsBased on what we know of the names of his wife and children it seems likely he was the Jonn Brimblecombe baptized on 2 Mar 1623 to John and Richard (mother) in Modbury, Devon. His baptism is followed by the baptisms of two of his children who married in Marblehead. The wife on the baptism record is Tabitha as well.[6] Church of England, Parish Register Transcripts of Modbury, Devon, 1553-1837:
Children:
aka Brimblecom, Brimblecome, Brimblecombe, Brimbelcom, Brimbelcome, Brimbelcomb, etc. Also baptized there was Richard Brimblecomb (John's sister) on 3 AUG 1621 to John and Richard. She married Christopher Crispin on 24 Sep 1658 and had a daughter Margaret Crispine who married Robert Leight aka Lee who had a number of children born there (Surname changed to Lee). Richard appearendly had a bastard daughter Elizabeth bp 25 Aug 1643 as well before she was married.
Also in this town a Margery - probably and aunt of John married 28 Jul 1606 to John Cranne and had several children baptized there from 1607-1624: Henry, Margery, Mary, Joane and Nathaniel.
