RELIGION: Member of the Society of Friends from 1683. In 1716 his home at Carlton Biggin was recorded as a place of religion for the people called Quakers (Ben Beck). John was a minister of the Society of Friends.

BIRTH: Friends' registers do not record this birth, but Keighley parish registers printed by the Yorkshire Parish Register Society, 1927, edited by W.A. Brigg, vol.2, p.33 has the Baptism of this child: 'October 1663 John, the sonn of John Bynns of Hey was bapt. the 4th daie'.

RESIDENCES: 1663 - At birth - Clough Heigh, Keighley, Yorkshire, England,

MARRIAGE: Friends' registers (are defective and) do not record the marriage of John and Abigail, but the Settle Monthly Meeting minutes [Carlton Hill Archives H2, pp.30-31] show that it was cleared to take place at their MM sitting 2 iv 1703. The wedding doubtless took place on 10 iv 1703 as stated in the Genealogy.

DEATH: 1397.359 1396.274 John Binns of Carleton Biggin, died 25 iv 1731, 68 years

BURIAL: Skipton.

OBITUARY: He was a plain man and very industrious for the support of his family. Had his children in good care. He led a very exemplary life, whereby he left a good name behind him amongst his neighbours and good example to his posterity for a Godly life. It was neither Haytime nor Harvest could keep him from a weekly meeting, tho' he had but little in the World and a great charge of children.

MISCELLANEOUS_NOTES: After his wedding, he and his bride "went to house at Cragtop, near Kildwick, had but little to begin with."

CONFLICT: In MSS written by Jonathan Binns [214] 1785-1871 of Lancaster (great-grandson), is decribed as 'of Oakworth'. MSS now in Liverpool Public Library. [It is believed that this may have been a mis-interpretation of the Parish register entries of St. Andrew's, Keighley for the year 1663. Two entries are to be found for 'John, son of John Bynns ....', the second entry isfor the 20th December, 1663: but this was a son of John Bynns of Okeworth, NOT of Hey (Clough Heigh). Gunder Family Tree gives Oakworth as the birthplace giving a further mixture of facts (see above).

INITIAL_SOURCE: Leicester.
