His wife is listed as Mary V age 22 born in MA [This must be wife #2]. His children are listed as: Jno W., Jr. age 20, painter; Mary H age 17; Pauline age 12, Ruth age 7, Bettie age 1. All children are shown to be born in Virginia. 1861-1865 - I find several Civil War Service Records for John W Belote - these need further research - I think at least one of them is for John W Belote, Jr but think none of them are for this John W Belote 1870 census-John W Belote is 50 and a painter, real estate value $4,500. His wife is Mary V age 32. The children are listed as: Mary H age 28; Olivia, 22; Ruth, 17; Betty, 11; Nannie, 9; Lucy, 6; Harry, 3; Parker, 1. Waller; white; 25; laborer; born NC as are his parents 1888, 1889, 1890 there are entries in the Norfolk, VA Directories for John W Belote - 521 Queen Ave with a second location at "over 17 Atlantic"; 331 Church St with the same 2nd location and 521 Brambleton Ave again with the same 2nd location - could this 2nd location be a business location and possibly where the slaves lived - as I cannot locate this John W, are the directory entries for John W Belote, Jr?
