Hist of WV, p. 83, also says this: "He was an honor graduate from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA, then began to study law in the office of John J. Davis. After a year, entered Cincinnati College of Law from which he graduated. Quoting from the Histroy of the Bench and Bar of West Virginia: 'He was noted for his diligence, mental acuteness, and power of analysis....ranked among the able lawyers of his day, always conducting his cases with admirable effectiveness and superior judgment.' Delegate to the state convention that wrote the constitution of 1872. Elected president of the State Bar Association in 1901. Presbyterian. Had six children with Martha Lewis his first wife." (don't know these children or name(s) of other wives.)
