Birth

The birth certificate of Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman can be found on familysearch: [1]. It is noted that he was born at 6:00 a.m. on 21 December 1897 in Amsterdam at the Eerste Jan van der Heijdenstraat 48. His parents are Jacobus Gerardus Steenman (metal turner, 36, living in Amsterdam) and Anna Maria Elisabeth Sluijter.

Military records

We find a reference to the militia registry for Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman, dated 30 May 1916. On 3 May 1916 he requested exemption of the service due to the fact that he was the money maker in the family, which was refused. His occupation is listed as gilder. He finally was exempt from service on 30 Mai 1916 due to bodily defects. His length was registered as 1,632 meters. [2].

Marriage

On 28 December 1921 Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman (24, Amsterdam, traveling salesman) married Anna Catharina Engelsma (23, Amsterdam) in Amsterdam. [3]. His parents are Jacobus Gerardus Steenman (merchant, 60, living in Amsterdam) and Anna Maria Sluijter (52, living in Amsterdam). Her parents are Antonius Engelsma (dockworker) and Anna Elizabeth Onstee, both living in Amsterdam. Witnesses were: Johannes Jacobus Gerardus Steenman (clerk, 30) and Gerardus Johannes Joseph Steenman (clerk, 29), both brothers of Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman.

They had children but due to the privacy act we cannot find them. In the obituary of Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman we find the following information:

3. Stroud (Canada): R. A. Steenman, J. M. Steenman-van Loon;

Death

The death of Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman we can deduct from publications in the newspaper. He died 19 August 1960 in Heemstede and was buried on 22 August 1960 in the graveyard at the Bavo church in Heemstede. In another newspaper publication we find that he worked for 45 years at J.C. Boldoot N.V. and that his first name was Johan.

We finally find his death certificate stating that Johannes Hendricus Leonardus Antonius Steenman died at 62 years of age on 19 August 1960 at 0:23 a.m. in Heemstede [4]. He was a head representative and his parents were Jacobus Gerardus Steenman and Anna Maria Elisabeth Sluijter, both deceased. His wife is Anna Catharina Engelsma.
