Facts and Events
Johannes Kettner/Ketner's birth is recorded in the Lutheran Church Book of Waldangelloch, which is near Sinsheim, Germany. In the burial record of Ester Catharina, one of Johanne's daughters, it was mentioned that her father was a "Dragoner in the Hochfurstl Sachsen Gothieschen Dragones Regiment". Dragones were soldiers who fired short muskets. It is thought that this family was one of the many who accepted William Penn's invitation to come to Pennsylvania for religious freedom. They went from Germany to London, England, where they set sail on the 'Charming Betty' with John Ball as Captain. They landed in Philadelphia on 11 October, 1733. The next day at the court house, Philadelphia, Johannes Kettner and George Michel Kettner (Johannes' 18 year old son) took the 'oath to the government. They were listed as Palatines, which indicates that they were from the Palatine area of Germany. The family settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania. After Veronica died, Johannes married Barbara Heinrich. This marriage of 8 February 1738 is recorded in Christ Little Tulpehocken Church Book. Johannes is thought to have married a third time to Mary _____. Mary married John Reis shortly after Johannes Ketner died in 1767. References
