The godparents of Johannes (in 1822) are the Aunt and Uncle of his wife-to-be (Regina Fassnacht)!

In both the Altensteig Ortsippenbuch AND on the church's Familienbuch (p. 393 of Film #1201934), there is NO mention of what became of Johannes. No record of him after his confirmation. No mention that he moved to America. There are other entries throughout the church records with similar facts lacking, but it's odd because almost every other sibling of his has information included about them, including their emigrations.

Darcy found this in Feb 2006: Name: Johannes Jassnacht Date of Arrival: June 21, 1849 Age: 26 Gender: U Port of Arrival: New York Port of Departure: Liverpool Place of Origin: Deutschland Ship: Minesota Family Identification: 2664305 Microfilm Serial Number: M 237 Microfilm Roll Number: 80

With him on the ship is his "fiancee" Regina Erhardt as well as his younger brother Christoph (incorrectly recorded as "Christine").

1860 Census: 7th ward, with Regina, Elizabeth and "Meena" (Wilhelmina), dwelling 1237, family 1623.

John L. Smith mentioned that Johann made the beer and a partner [Max Roth?] sold it, pocketing the profits- this apparently led to Johann's illness and subsequent death- ( heart trouble???) George Redlein mentions a Max Roth as being responsible for Johann's problems- ( a swindler?) [Note: we've since discovered that Johannes and Regina had a son that they named after Max. The boy must not have survived long, though, as he is not listed with them in the 1860 census. Max Roth is also godparent/sponsor to two children of Johannes & Regina.]

Johannes & Regina were originally buried at Concordia then moved to Forest Lawn cemetery in 1895.

(Just means he applied for emigration before 1848, not that he necessarily emigrated before 1848.) BTW, it's not confirmed that the Johannes Fassnacht in this index is OUR Johannes Fassnacht.
