Early Migration to Germanna Colony

Johann Paulus Lederer was an early immigrant from Germany. He arrived in Philadelphia on the "Johnson" in September, 1732 and settled in the Germanna Colony in Culpeper County, Virginia. He married Margaret Clore, daughter of Michael Clore, another early Germanna settler.[1]

    On 18 Sep 1733, he was listed as a "German Immigrant" passenger to Philadelphia on the Johnson Galley, mastered by David Crockett of London. [citing Strassburger, Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Vol. 1, pp. 72, 76 & 78]

    By 1735, he was in the Germanna colony in Virginia.

    His will mentions his wife Margaret, and children Michael, Nicholas, Samuel, John, Paul, Joshua, Susannah Leatherer, Mary Yowell, and Margaret Leatherer. It was probated 21 Nov 1780

    The earliest date he can be proven to be in the Hebron Community is 13 Jul 1737, on which he witnessed a deed of Nicholas Yaeger to Adam Yaeger.
