Johann wrote about himself the following: "Lon 14 Jan 1801, I married Maria Dorothea Fitzke of Mesritz. On 1 Nov 1805, I began my duties as kantorstelle (village choirmast or schoolmaster) in Samter (Province of Posen) after being examined by superintendent Neumann at Birnbaum (Posen). I remained there until 14 Apr 1809. I moved from Samter to Obornik. I was there four years. After several invitations, I took the present position at Czarnikau on 15 Mayu 1813 with the title of Rektorstelle (Headmaster of Schools)"
