Jerome K. Sheckler, 63 years of age, of 212 North Avenue, Jim Thorpe, died Saturday, September 24 in his home. He is survived by his wife, Dawn (Houser) Sheckler. They observed their 38th wedding anniversary on August 5. He retired on July 4, 2005 as a mill wright worker from Lehigh Heavy Forge Company and previously worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp. Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Frederick and Loretta (Lauchnor) Sheckler. He graduated from Lehighton High School in 1959. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in the Heights of Jim Thorpe. He was a member of the Mauch Chunk Rod and Gun Club, the Beaver Rod and Gun Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also active and served as a coach for the Jim Thorpe Little League Baseball and was active with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts in Jim Thorpe. He also served on the Sam Miller Field Association. Survivors: Besides his wife are sons, Kyle, husband of Bonnie (Timony) Sheckler, Todd, husband of Arlene (Burke) Sheckler, Jason, Husband of Pearl (Downs) Sheckler and Jerome II Omy, husband of Beth Ann (Gushue) Sheckler, all of Jim Thorpe and Shawn, husband of Stacy (Wolfe) Sheckler, of Franklin Township; three grandchildren; brother, David of Coopersburg; sisters, Rachel Miller of New Ringgold and Jeanette Sheckler of Lehighton. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard. Services: will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28 in the Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center Street, Jim Thorpe, with Emma Weaver, Salm, officiating. Interment will be in Sky View Cemetery, Hometown. Call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday.
