Howard J. Sheckler Sr., 74, of 122 Clover Lane, Lehighton, died July 27 in Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was married to Elaine M. (Bowman) Sheckler for 49 years.
He was a mechanic for Kovatch Corp., Nesquehoning, before retiring in the early 1990s and previously for J. Robert Bazley Construction, Port Carbon, Schuylkill County, and Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 18 years.
Born in Parryville, he was a son of the late Frederick C.J. and Lauretta (Lauchnor) Sheckler.
He was a member of Ben Salem United Church of Christ, Lehighton, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school treasurer and choir member, and a church sexton and cemetery caretaker for more than 30 years before retiring.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Friendship Grange, Ashfield, and Grundsow Lodge 8, Liz-zard Creek Chapter.
Survivors: Wife; sons, Wayne D. and Howard J. Jr., and daughters, Linda E. Kern and Carolyn D. Kuehner, all of Lehighton; brothers, David of Coopersburg, Jerome of Jim Thorpe; sisters, Rachel Miller of New Ringgold, Jeanette of Lehighton; six grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Call 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 2066 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold.
