Newspaper article: Janette Walker, 91, Missouri Janette Martha Walker, 91, died March 10 at Independence MO. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Casey. Interment will be in Dalmanutha Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Casey United Methodist Church Friday, April 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. Janette Martha Walker was born Oct. 7, 1917 in Audubon County, the daughter of Elmer and Martha Krause Shaefer. She was raised on the Audubon Township farm and attended Oak Ridge School. She graduated from Adair High School in 1935 with a Normal Training Certificate and taught for two years at Oak Ridge School and one year at Audubon Township No. 8 school. She was married May 15, 1938 to Ross Levi Walker. They farmed for the 44 years of their marriage in Thompson Township in Guthrie County. Mrs. Walker began taking college courses in 1950, and earned her Bachelors Degree in 1958 and Masters Degree in 1962 from Drake University. She taught at Walnut Township School No. 4 in Adair County from 1951 to 1955 and taught seventh grade in Stuart in the 1955-56 school year. The following year she taught the upper elementary grades in the Guthrie Cener School System in a rural school in Wichita. In 1957, she was hired into the Des Moines School system and taught elementary grades until retiring in 1982. Following retirement she became affiliated with the Inter Peace Movement. She lived for extended periods in Australia, New Zealand, California, Washington D. C., Puerto Rico and Texas. Survivors include one son, Lynn Walker of Kansas City Mo; two daughters, Nyla Janette Isele of Croton , N.Y., and Joanne Marie Wahl of Nevada; one brother, Ray Shaefer of Canon City, Colo.; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband May 20, 1982.
