John GRAY of Kilmardinny, New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire married Jane FARQUHAR of Gilmilnscroft (in the parish of Sorn, Ayrshire) in 1777; Jane died 1809 (family letters). On the birth record of James Gray (a son, born 1778 at Balfron, Stirliingshire) the parents were John Farquhar Gray and Jean Farquar. Jane was the only daughter of Alexander FARQUHAR (d. 1779) of Gilmillscroft and Elizabeth WILSON. Jane died in 1809 („Genealogical account of the principal families of Ayrshire“ by George Robertson,1824). From “Decennial indexes to the services of heirs in Scotland 1700-1859”: James Farquhar of Gillmillscroft, Major Ayshire militia, to his mother Jane Farquhar Gray of Gillmillscroft, who died 25may1809.
