In 1913 they moved to a larger farm near Ankeny (Polk Co., Ia.) They attended the Congregational Church, bobsledding to church in the winter and using a buggy the rest of the year. Jasper was the administrator for his mother's estate and he bought back much of the original holdings from his brothers and sisters. The family owned a 1918 Ford touring car with Snap-on curtains. They drove it around to visit the rest of the family. We are told also of his success as a farmer, growing a variety of crops. His farm, described in colorful detail in family stories, supplied timber for many uses, including as support posts in a nearby coal mine. There was a creek through the property with a fallen log as a foot bridge "for the children to cross the creek on their way to a country school about two miles distant." He raised corn, beans, oats, hay, and wheat, as well as rasberries, peanuts and a kitchen garden. They had chickens, cows, horses, hogs, and sheep. We are told Jasper enjoyed reading, and raised their children in "a home where God and the Bible were loved and respected." When his sister Mable (172.B) and her husband were missionaries in Korea, he helped her "in many ways throughout her life." They are buried in Union Cemetery, Sect. W, Row 8, Ankeny, Polk Co., Ia.
